Leadership

Student Athlete: Field Hockey

As a field hockey captain in 2025, I learned that leadership is about more than holding a title. Throughout my career, I led by example on and off the field by supporting my teammates, communicating effectively, and helping build a positive team environment. In 2025, our team won the PSAC Championship and NCAA Division II National Championship, accomplishments that reflected the hard work, trust, and leadership of our team. My experience as a captain strengthened my ability to motivate others, collaborate toward a shared goal, and lead in both formal and informal ways.

SAAC

As a leader within the student-athlete community, I served as a Member, Secretary, and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from 2023 to 2026. As one of two representatives from the field hockey team, I helped serve as a voice for student-athletes, bringing their perspectives forward and working to strengthen the connection between athletes and the university. As President, I helped lead initiatives and events that brought student-athletes together, including helping plan the first Raider Relays. These experiences strengthened my communication, collaboration, and leadership skills while teaching me how to advocate for others and create meaningful opportunities for the student-athlete community.

NCAA Leadership in Sports Forum

Attending the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in 2026 was a transformative leadership experience that challenged me to rethink the kind of leader I want to become. Being selected as one of just 200 student-athletes from across the country to attend the event was an incredible opportunity to learn from industry professionals, connect with fellow student-athletes, and gain a deeper understanding of the impact leaders can have in sports. The experience pushed me outside my comfort zone, strengthened my confidence, and reminded me that leadership is about embracing challenges, continuing to learn, and creating opportunities for others.
